University Of Exeter

Well, just finished my 1st week of uni. Still cant believe i only have like...10 hours of classes. In comparison to the 20+ odd hours at melbourne, 10 hours seems achievable (to actually go to class). Actually made it to all of my classes this week...thats a good start i reckon....just 11 weeks more to go for the semester. Pretty sure lots of you were clueless when i said i was going to university of exeter...(what uni is that...is that even a uni you might ask)...well...its a pretty good one i have to say...ranked 17th right now in uk...pretty good considerin theres like..120+ unis in uk in total. Well, of course its no oxford, cambridge, UCL , warwick..but...let me say...we are better in the ranks compared to uni manchester, liverpool, nottingham...so yeah..pretty good indeed.

Apart from that...the campus is amazing...its really really beautiful. Actually, its apparently the most beautiful campus in uk!!! as mentioned by times which is the official ranking of unis over here.
Theres quite a difference in the unis here compared to melbourne. One big fact is that ...99% of the uni students live on campus or just outside of it. This is because most of them are not from exeter themselves, and are either from different parts of england or international. This is diff from melb, as a lot of students still live at home in the suburbs or random places like..mornington even.

Living in a residential hall at the moment. Its basicaly the same as IH except there are no activities like oweek, national nite, cafe , sports etc. The reason for this is because all activities are held in uni itself, by their clubs and societies. My room is pretty nice i have to say...ensuite room...double bed(not like im gonna get any action..but still..spacious) and the food is generally quite nice over here...and they serve different stuff everyday so thats always a plus...had salmon steak d other day which was really good actually.Only downside is that they only serve rice about..once or twice a week max...so yeah...Ooh...also..did i mention..that there is only 4 asians in total over here!!!! 4!!!! out of 400!!!....never been so out of placed before..thats ...1 : 100 ratio man!!

ooh..just to make all the IHers jealous...there unlimited quota here ..and even though torrents are blocked..online tv is still available...beat that mofo's..

Another thing i love about my residential halls...the view from the courtyard is amazing...couz the uni is on a huge hill...and my hall is basicaly at the peak of the hill..it overlooks some mountains..and the whole city..dont believe me..just look at the photos below..thats the view i get everyday..every single day..well...today was just a better day couz the sun was actually out..most of time its just gloomy...still..the view is amazing..just being able to see it everyday is really refreshing..!!!

Holland hall (residential hall) from the courtyard

The view from the balcony..or the courtyard..facing the mountains to the right!

And the view of the city to the left

Just a general view...couldnt take the whole view couz my camera lens was not wide enuff

Just in case you guys think that the view is fake...this is the view..with the hall on my right...as im standing on the balcony of the courtyard!!!

I actually like it over here in the sense that there are people from all over the world. In melbourne...when you say overseas student...its 80% asians im guesing. Over here..its the other day around..20% asians max our of the 1000 international students they have here...Most of the international students here are mostly europeans. Met quite a few french, greeks, irish, scottish, turkish, swedish, swiss, germains, italians, spaniards etc...so yeah..its really good in the sense that you get to meet people from all over the world.

Classes here are actually not too bad. Apart from one of my subject, statistics and econometrics...the lecturers are generally really good...interesting...funny etc. Come on...the fact that i didnt fall asleep ..or even thought of falling asleep is not too bad man....esp marketing..the lecturer is actually really energetic and all. Bad thing though...no tutes...no online lecture..man you have to concentrate in lectures thats for sure. And the assignments here are apparently more harder.Just like my marketing project...10000 words...only worth 15 percent..whats the deal..what happened to all those 2000 words intro micro assignments which were worth 15 percent. Well, apparently education here is based around self learning..so thats why there arent tutes for all subjects.. your meant to research and study yourself....*GULP*and apparently...they ask you to be innovative..basicaly...the lecturers say that you can get a 2nd class or h2B if you stick to the theory but the only way to get really high marks...distinction is when you challenge/criticize the theories and come out with your own one...basicaly..bullshit your way throgh...

Clubs and societies here are very interesting...really happening..they often have club socials where you all go as a group to a club...or anything like that..and the place is booked out just by the club...not too bad. Joined basketball and badminton(not gonna bother with football..couz i know ill get kicked in the arse)but..basketball and badminton is pretty tough man..did you know that badminton was originated from england...so yeah.they have really good players over here..dont even know whether i can make the 2nd team. As for basketball..dont even think i can get 2nd team...man these european players are pretty good..esp the ones from serbia and turkey...dunkin all over the place man...

Generally ...all is good. library is open 24 hours a day everyday...so yeah..if i do decide to study..thats always a place i can go to. Shit...did i mention..theres a bar in every...200 meters(literally)even my hall has a bar...not like ih bar..but a bar bar..decent bar with like..8 different beers on tap and stuff liek that...and i thought aussies were drinkers....over here.its a whole different level...im not even close to them man..ridiculous...just saw a bunch of my floormates...finishing up a double centurion....DOUBLE CENTURION...2 shots of beer a minute for 100 minutes!!! what the hell man..and all of them pulled through..ok..they are really drunk right now...but still..mahai!!!

What else is there to say about my uni..all is going well i suppose...of course i do miss melbourne..miss IH and everyone in it...miss all my friends...miss chinatown..red silk....desset house(spicy chicken with rice in particular)..but life here aint all that bad..its actually pretty good i have to say... Random note..actually lost some weight..think its all the sports ive been playing...that and actually walking to uni...ooh...downside...its a 10 minutes downhill walk to my business school but a massive 15 minute uphill walk...really uphill...like..walking from jln telawi in bangsar up to...bangsar shoppin centre..so yeah...good work out!!

Thats it for now i guess...headed to gym for a workout with my friends..and off to the bar!!!!
